Westminster Home Connection provides critical home repairs and mobility modifications for older adult and those with disabilities, improving the overall health and wellbeing of our city, our communities, and our neighbors. Our services give homeowners a way to remain in the home they love and, in the communities, where they’ve built their lives. We were founded in 2010. Our offices are located on the by Westminster Presbyterian Church campus. We work on 200 to 250 homes each year in Middle Tennessee. To receive our free services, our clients must be 60 years old or have a disability and can’t earn more than 80% of the area median household income. In most cases, our clients live on Social Security and have a median monthly income of $1,700, making it nearly impossible to keep up with home repairs. Most clients come to us through referrals from healthcare or social service agencies and have multiple needs in addition to home repairs. For that reason, we work closely with case managers from referring agencies. Our services fall into two main categories: critical repairs and mobility modifications. To get started, a construction assessor and case manager meet with each client to determine the scope, construction approach, and budget needed to make the house safe and functional. For example, we install step-in bathtubs, wheelchair ramps, and resolve issues like leaky pipes, that might otherwise cause homeowners to be forced to leave their homes. On average, a home will receive 6-7 services or repairs. Our average investment per house is $3,000. We keep costs down by utilizing volunteers and our own in-house construction team for most services. We focus on safety and function, without spending resources on cosmetics or non-essential repairs. We are a practical solution to affordable housing. A path to age in place safely and with dignity. A replicable service model for interested partners.
