Wheelwright Associates takes its name from the practice of building, truing and balancing wheels.  The metaphor is an apt one for interdependence;  individuals, teams, companies all must work together just as the parts of a wheel do to provide a stable and reliable method of traveling toward shared goals and destinations.  From the hub, through the spokes, to the outer rim, the wheel is a a system of interrelated parts working together in a balanced fashion.  The wheelwright insures that the balance is kept between parts and the whole, achieving a 'true' roll.

And the wheel is also a symbol of wholeness, or completeness.  In this regard, our practice begins with helping individuals at all levels of the organization to better understand themselves and their working relationships.  As a component of leadership development, this self-understanding is the hub of interactions with co-workers and clients.   Without a strong hub, the spokes and the rim—teams and the organization at large—will not operate as smoothly and effectively as possible, making the journey difficult, and sometimes ending it prematurely.
