The World Maritime University (WMU) is a higher education institution established within the framework of the International Maritime Organization, a United Nations specialized agency. It is based in Malmö, Sweden, located at 29 Citadellsvägen, P/o Box 500, and employs between 201 and 500 staff. WMU's mission is to be a world centre of excellence in postgraduate maritime and oceans education, professional training and research, and to build global capacity and promote sustainable development. The university offers a Master of Science in Maritime Affairs in Malmö with seven specializations: Maritime Education & Training, Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration, Maritime Energy Management, Maritime Law & Policy, Port Management, Shipping Management & Logistics, and Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management. WMU also operates additional programs including MSc programs in China, a growing PhD program in Malmö, an LLM and distance-learning postgraduate diplomas, and an MPhil degree offered jointly with the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta; it conducts maritime and ocean-related research for the IMO and other UN agencies, the EU, and maritime organizations worldwide, and established the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute in 2018.
