Reed Candle Company began it's candle manufacturing operation in a small fourteen by eighteen foot building on Waverly Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. The company’s founder, Peter Doan Reed, was having a hard time locating Votive Candles to sell in his Red and White Grocery Store and knew the closest place to supply the rapidly growing market was in St. Louis, Missouri. Recognizing the opportunity to supply the rapidly growing market, he began experimenting in the building that he build behind his home. By the end of 1937, he purchased his first two votive molding machines and started producing candles with the help of his family and one employee. Today, after seventy-six years, Reed Candle Company has expanded to more than two hundred employees. Reed Candle Company produces more than three hundred and fifty different candle products and is the leader of the Religious Prayer Candles. Reed distributes nationally and internationally with a network of warehouses throughout the United States.
