YVCOG is a voluntary association of local governments in the Yakima Valley that pursues collaborative solutions to regional policy and planning challenges. Its work covers transportation, commute trip reduction, economic development, comprehensive planning, homeless housing, GIS, and other jurisdictional needs addressed through technical assistance. Based in Yakima in the Yakima Valley region, the organization has served the community for more than five decades and describes itself as a small to mid-sized agency. It functions as the lead agency for the Regional Transportation Planning Organization under state law and for the Metropolitan Planning Organization under federal law. Governing bodies include an Executive Committee elected by the general membership from 15 local jurisdictions, with the Policy Board serving as the decision-making authority for MPO/RTPO.
