Young Performers Theatre is a nonprofit children’s theatre based at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, California, and operates as the area’s only full-time organization dedicated to youth theatre. Founded in 1982 by theatre educator Matilda Kunin in memory of her son, the company produces a range of mainstage productions for young audiences, including classic works and premieres by local writers, while also offering early acting education for children as young as three. Its work centers on engaging children in theatre from an early age and sustaining their interest in the performing arts through in-classroom education and outreach to communities with limited access to live theatre. Serving families and aspiring young performers in the San Francisco Bay Area, the organization emphasizes accessibility and ongoing involvement in the arts as a foundational goal of its programming.
