AFSCME DC47 is the bargaining agent for the Professional and Technical Employees of the City of Philadelphia. AFSCME is an acronym for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. There are nine local unions under the umbrella of AFSCME DC47, three of which are local unions with employees who work for the City of Philadelphia. The 3 locals are AFSCME Local 2187, The professional and Technical employees of the City of Philadelphia; AFSCME 2186, the first line Supervisors of those employees; and AFSCME Local 810, the Probation employees of the First Judicial District. The other six Locals are Local 54, the Cafeteria Workers of the University of Pennsylvania; Local 590, the Library workers of the University of Pennsylvania; Local 752 representing the Zoological Employees of the Philadelphia Zoo; Local 1723 representing Temple University Technical and Administrative employees; Local 1739 representing employees of non-profit agencies in the City of Philadelphia; Local 3397, the faculty organization of the Philadelphia University of the Arts. We also have a retiree's chapter that is made up of retirees of any of the locals listed above.
