Airbus U.S. Space & Defense (Florida) is a mid-sized aviation and aerospace component manufacturer operating a satellite production facility in Merritt Island, Florida. In January 2024, the company completed a transaction to acquire full ownership of the Airbus OneWeb Satellites joint venture, becoming the sole owner of both AOS and the Merritt Island factory. The restructuring aims to improve efficiency and competitiveness for commercial, institutional, and national-security space customers, and the Merritt Island plant has been retooled to support an Arrow450 production line with an expansion planned to meet rising demand for small satellites. The Airbus OneWeb Satellites venture, established in 2016, has produced more than 600 satellites for OneWeb’s first-generation constellation and is currently operating on orbit. Through its focus on high-volume small-satellite manufacturing, the company serves commercial, institutional, and national-security space customers and is expanding its footprint on Florida’s Space Coast.
