The American Conservative Union (ACU) is the nation’s leading conservative grassroots organization, educating and mobilizing conservatives to fight for the restoration of our Republic. We do this through a variety of initiatives, including our annual flagship Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC, international CPACs on almost every continent, Battleground CPACs in states across America, policy advocacy across the full spectrum of issues, and support of candidates for public office. ACU is well positioned to capitalize on our status as the nation’s original grassroots organization and as one of the premier advocates for conservative policy in Washington. 

History: ACU was founded in 1964 by William F Buckley and other conservative luminaries. From its inception, ACU has served as the umbrella organization for the conservative movement, perpetually steering it in the direction of true conservativism which best protects our natural rights, including the right to life, liberty and property.

Today: ACU serves a unique role as a leader and organizer within the conservative movement: we combine ideas with action so everyday Americans learn what true conservatism is and what it takes to preserve it. We are educating, rallying, and mobilizing conservatives nationwide about key principles and policies, equipping them to become fully engaged, influential citizens.  

Our Mission: As the nation’s original conservative organization, ACU defines conservativism as the political philosophy that sovereignty resides in the person. This governing principle drives our mission to promote Individual Liberty, Personal Responsibility, a Thriving Culture, and a Strong National Defense so that America remains the land of freedom and opportunity, where citizens are empowered to work, prosper and flourish.  Ultimately, ACU envisions a country where Americans live freer, more fulfilled lives while voluntarily addressing the needs of their neighbors and communities.
