The American Forest & Paper Association is a trade association serving the paper and forest products manufacturing sector. Based in Washington, DC, it advocates for public policies that promote economic growth, job creation, and the sector’s global competitiveness. The U.S. forest products industry employs more than 925,000 people, largely in rural areas, and accounts for about 4.7% of U.S. manufacturing GDP, producing more than $435 billion in goods each year. Member companies are major producers and users of renewable biomass energy and pursue sustainable products through the Better Practices, Better Planet 2030 initiative. In January 2026, AF&PA announced the appointment of Robbert Rietbroek as CEO, signaling leadership transition for the organization. The association also conducts industry data collection and reporting, such as the Paper Industry Annual Capacity and Fiber Consumption Survey, with recent editions released in 2024 and 2025.
