American Girl is a doll manufacturer based in Middleton, Wisconsin, with a long-standing presence in children's toys. The company designs and sells dolls, accompanying books, and related experiences that support learning and character development for girls. It traces its origins to 1986, when Pleasant Rowland founded Pleasant Company; after a catalog-driven start and the opening of its first retail location in Chicago in 1996, the business was acquired by Mattel in 1998 and renamed American Girl in 2003.

Today it operates as a subsidiary of Mattel, distributing products through its catalog, americangirl.com, and its own U.S. experiential retail stores. Its product lines include Truly Me, Girl of the Year, Bitty Baby, WellieWishers, and BeForever, and the brand serves girls and their families, with educators identified among its audiences. A recent development is a collaboration with Hill House Home to release a limited-edition Mother's Day collection, launching May 5, 2026 across americangirl.com and hillhousehome.com.
