Apollo wurde 1972 gegründet und gehört dem internationalen Optikkonzern GrandVision an, der seit 2021 Teil der EssilorLuxottica-Gruppe ist. Ein Großteil der Brillen, die in den Filialen oder im Apollo.de Onlineshop erworben werden, wird in der hauseigenen Fertigung im mittelfränkischen Schwabach fertiggestellt, wo auch die Dienstleistungszentrale seit 1998 ihren Sitz hat.
