The mission of Asian Neighborhood Design (AND) is to reduce poverty and revitalize neighborhoods in the Bay Area by building healthy communities and providing opportunities for low-income residents to become economically self-sufficient. We provide a comprehensive 14-week green construction & solar job training program for at-risk youth and adults through our Employment Training Center (ETC). Since 1973, AND has designed and renovated millions of sq. ft. and thousands of affordable housing units; dozens of health clinics, child care and neighborhood centers and improved 100s of retail tenant facades for small businesses in commercial corridors of underserved neighborhoods through Architecture Services. Our Community Planning dept. provides state-of-the-art urban design tools, technology and expertise to residents of disadvantaged communities giving them a stake and a voice in the future development of their own neighborhoods. Passionately serving the Bay Area for four decades, AND was founded by a group of UC Berkeley architecture students dedicated to improving living conditions in San Francisco and Oakland Chinatowns. Since then, AND has become nationally recognized for its holistic approach to community design, economic development and green workforce training for multi-ethnic, low-income populations.
