Asian Neighborhood Design (AND) operates in the architecture and planning field with a mission to reduce poverty and revitalize Bay Area neighborhoods by expanding opportunities for low‑income residents to become economically self‑sufficient. Based in San Francisco, California, the organization serves communities across the Bay Area. A key program is a 14‑week green construction and solar training track for at‑risk youth and adults, offered through its Employment Training Center. Through Architecture Services, AND has designed and renovated millions of square feet and thousands of affordable housing units, and has improved health clinics, child care facilities, neighborhood centers, and hundreds of retail storefront facades in underserved commercial corridors. Its Community Planning department provides residents in disadvantaged communities with modern urban design tools and expertise to give them a stake and voice in future development. Founded in 1973 by UC Berkeley architecture students, AND has become nationally recognized for a holistic approach to community design, economic development, and green workforce training for multi‑ethnic, low‑income populations.
