The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is a voluntary alliance of local, state, and federal agencies, bringing together regulatory officials and industry participants involved in animal and pet feeds. It seeks to safeguard the feed supply through coordinated, system-based regulation, with standards for feed ingredients, labeling, and laboratory practices. AAFCO serves as a primary source of U.S. animal feed regulatory information and provides a forum for regulators to develop model guidance aimed at harmonizing rules across states. Its members and stakeholders work together to define ingredient definitions and establish labeling and ingredient standards, along with laboratory guidance to support a safe feed supply. In addition to regulatory work, AAFCO offers resources for the animal feed and pet food industries and furnishes regulatory information to farmers, ranchers, pet owners, veterinarians, and other animal professionals. It is based in Champaign, Illinois, as a small nonprofit.
