Based in Washington, D.C., the Association of American Railroads is a national trade group representing North America's freight railroads, including the major networks in the United States, Canada and Mexico, along with Amtrak. It oversees a private 140,000-mile rail network and works with policymakers to ensure the freight system meets current and future transportation needs. As the standard-setting body for the region's rail operations, AAR advances safety and productivity through its two subsidiaries: Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI), which conducts research, development and testing related to safety and efficiency, and Railinc Corp., which provides rail data, information technology and information services and operates a large data network to track shipments.
