Atlantic Theater Company is a performing arts organization headquartered in New York City at 76 Ninth Avenue Suite 537, New York, NY 10011. Founded in 1985 by students of David Mamet and William H. Macy, the company uses an artistic ensemble to produce plays. Its production program includes world and NYC premieres, modern adaptations of classic plays, and international co-productions, along with new play development through readings, workshops, commissions, and Stage 2 premieres. Atlantic operates the Atlantic Acting School, offering a conservatory program, an undergraduate program operated in conjunction with NYU, and afterschool and summer programs for kids and teens, and it serves about 3,500 New York City public school students annually. The company has produced more than 150 plays and has earned 12 Tony Awards, including Tony-winning productions such as Spring Awakening and The Beauty Queen of Leenane, as well as Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Awards for outstanding body of work, and its founding ensemble remains integral.
