Barnett, Lerner & Karsen, P.A. was founded in 1995 by David C. Barnett, Esq., and Barry R. Lerner, Esq. Previously, both attorneys handled claims representing employers and carriers as well as employees who suffered work related injuries.

In 1995, Mr. Barnett and Mr. Lerner decided to create the law firm of Barnett, Lerner & Karsen, P.A. to only represent employees because they did not believe that injured workers were receiving appropriate representation regarding claims against insurance companies and employers. As such, since 1995, the focus of the firm has been on the rights of injured workers, both in the US and internationally, with expatriate compensation claims. Mr. Barnett and Mr. Lerner have litigated hundreds of cases throughout the United States and have filed briefs and appeals in numerous State and Federal jurisdictions. They have represented hundreds of injured employees under the Florida Workers' Compensation Act as well as the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, the Defense Base Act, the Non-Appropriated Funds Instrumentalities Act and the Jones Act. Barnett, Lerner & Karsen, P.A. is currently the largest firm in the world representing expatriate compensation cases arising under the Defense Base Act. They have established a network of associations, both nationally and worldwide, which enable them to handle this international practice.

Barnett, Lerner & Karsen, P.A. represent injured workers both throughout the country as well as internationally. The firm is able to handle representation and litigation under this Act on both a national and international basis, regardless of the location of the injured employee.
