The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) oversees the flow of electricity across the state's high-voltage transmission network that carries roughly 80% of California's power. As an impartial grid operator, it maintains reliability and supports the economy by ensuring a consistent supply of electricity around the clock. It also runs a wholesale power market designed to diversify resources and reduce prices, and oversees access to about 25,865 circuit-miles of transmission lines.
