The California Nurses Association and its affiliate National Nurses Organizing Committee function as a national labor and professional association for registered nurses. Founded in 1903 and based in Oakland, California, the organization represents more than 100,000 members working in hospitals, clinics, and home health agencies across the United States. Its work includes negotiating collective bargaining agreements, advocating for health care policy reforms, and advancing patient safety standards for nurses and patients. CNA/NNOC is a founding member of National Nurses United, a nearly 225,000-member organization formed in 2009 by uniting CNA/NNOC, United American Nurses, and the Massachusetts Nurses Association. NNU’s leadership includes Bonnie Castillo, RN, as executive director, and presidents Deborah Burger, Nancy Hagans, Jean Ross, and Zenei Triunfo-Cortez. Collectively, the CNA/NNOC/NNU network operates within the Hospitals and Health Care industry, focusing on improving care delivery and working conditions for nurses nationwide.
