CPCA operates as a statewide organization that advocates for and coordinates California’s community clinics, health centers, and regional networks within the state’s health care system. It provides advocacy, education, and services aimed at strengthening these facilities as central contributors to community health. CPCA represents more than 1,380 not-for-profit health centers and regional clinic associations that serve low-income, uninsured, and underserved Californians who might otherwise lack access to care. The organization is based in Sacramento and is designated by the Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care as the state’s primary care association, receiving federal program support to develop and enhance member services. Its diverse membership includes federally funded or designated clinics, rural and urban centers, and clinics serving special populations, and CPCA has pursued workforce initiatives such as launching post-graduate NP and PA residency programs to increase access to care.
