Caudalíe was born in 1993 when founders Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas had a chance encounter with Dr. Joseph Vercauteren, professor at the University of Pharmacy (Bordeaux, France) and the world’s leading expert on grape and grapevine polyphenols. Upon visiting the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux, Dr. Vercauteren noticed the leftover grape skins and seeds from the harvest and explained to the couple that the polyphenols in the grape and grapevines had extraordinary anti-oxidant power. It was from this knowledge that Caudalíe was created.
