Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a national nonprofit that aims to speed the adoption of clean transportation and distributed energy through careful program design and administration. It serves governments, utilities, and private-sector actors with a data-driven, software-enabled approach underpinned by specialized expertise and a client-focused team.

CSE operates in more than a dozen states, helping to launch, manage, and optimize incentive programs valued at over $4 billion. These programs include the largest U.S. EV incentive program, the largest statewide EV charging infrastructure program, and the largest solar program for multifamily affordable housing. The group is based in San Diego, California, and uses a fee-for-service model to maintain independence from shareholders, members, or donors. In 2026, CSE announced work on an Energy Storage Permitting Guidebook to assist local governments in standardizing battery storage installations.
