Children of the City is a small nonprofit based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York, that delivers services through home visits to connect children and families with programs designed to help them move beyond poverty. Since its founding in 1981, the organization has addressed issues such as trauma, academic frustration, drug use, delinquency, and despair, expanding its offerings as needs in the community evolve. Its work spans multiple program areas, including academics, advocacy, financial counseling, guardianship support, trauma intervention, youth mentoring, and parent workshops. Among its initiatives, Create Success operates as a year-round academic program for children and youth ages 5-18, running through the school year and summer to close skill gaps. The College Prep Program supports high school students with SAT preparation, application assistance, and life skills guidance. The Future Safe Program organizes monthly events and an annual carnival for local youth, complemented by seasonal outreach such as a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and a Holiday Gift Giveaway for families in need.
