Children of the City is the only grassroots, family development organization in New York City that utilizes home visits to connect individual children and families with the programs and resources to empower them with the skills to overcome poverty.

Based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Children of the City has been responding to the critical needs of families coping with trauma, academic frustration, drug abuse, delinquency and despair since 1981. Growing with the community is a priority for Children of the City. New programs are added regularly to help families address crucial issues as they arise.

Children of the City currently offers programs in the following areas:

    * academics
    * advocacy
    * financial counseling
    * guardianship
    * trauma intervention
    * youth mentoring
    * parent workshops

Children of the City programs include Create Success, Brooklyn's only year-round academic program for children ages 5-18. The program runs during the school year as well as throughout the summer, seeking to close the academic skills gap and displace the poverty mentality that prevents kids from focusing on their education. 

We also run a College Prep Program for high school sophomores, juniors and senior which includes an SAT Prep Course, Application Assistance and Life Skills Workshop. 

COC's Future Safe Program provides fun, safe events for local youth at our monthly Super Saturdays and Annual Carnival. We provides food, games and fun for kids and their parents. Each holiday season we also organize a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and Holiday Gift Giveaway for local families in need.
