CHROME FCU won Best Credit Union (Three straight years) and Best Mortgage Lender (Two consecutive years) from the Observer Reporter! CHROME may look shiny and new, but we started in 1971 as the credit union for employees of Washington Steel Corporation. In 1991, we became Washington Community Federal Credit Union and expanded our membership to serve anyone that lived in Washington County. In 2014, we updated our name to CHROME to pay homage to our original members, who added Chromium to the stainless steel produced at the mills by the Washington Steel Corporation. Now, our field of membership is open to anyone that lives, learns, works, or worships in one of these eight Southwestern Pennsylvania counties - Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Fayette, Washington, Westmoreland. Our name has changed but our values have not -- help neighbors and small businesses save, borrow, and live better. And unlike banks, our profits are reinvested in the community and to offer higher rates on savings and lower rates on loans to CHROME members. Branch Locations CHROME branches are located on Griffith Avenue in Washington and at two additional locations that are immediately off of I-79, one on 440 Racetrack Road and the other on 2601 Wexford Bayne Road (next to Children’s Hospital North) Who Can Become a CHROME Member?
