The City of Homestead is the second oldest city in Miami-Dade County and celebrated its Centennial in 2013. Homestead lies near the southern-most tip of Florida, where sunny days are in the majority and the average temperature is 75 degrees. The City's Historic Downtown encompasses 11 city blocks that comprise an area of approximately 12 acres. Recently, the City embarked on a dramatic Downtown Revitalization Project designed to breathe new life into the Historic District with a variety of public and private projects and partnerships. Ten miles west are the vast mangrove forests and watery sawgrass plains of Everglades National Park, a subtropical wilderness that shelters alligator and ibis, eagle and manatee. To the east and south are Biscayne Bay and its underwater national park, the Florida Keys and the Atlantic Ocean. Thirty miles north is Miami, "Gateway to the Americas," and one of the country's exciting international cities.
