College Access Now (CAN) supports students from low-income families in enrolling in and completing college. The organization collaborates with high schools and communities to provide structured coaching that translates college aspirations into attainable steps. Its programs accompany students from junior year of high school through college graduation, delivered by a core team of AmeriCorps coaches, volunteers, and staff. CAN serves about 2,500 students, including roughly 1,050 at 11 high schools in Seattle and South King County and about 1,500 at colleges across Washington State and the country. Founded in Seattle in 2005, CAN began as a grassroots effort at Garfield High School and has since evolved into an ongoing college access and persistence program, grounded in evidence-based practices.
