Community Assistance Council is a small nonprofit based in south Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1976. Its mission is to help individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency through direct emergency assistance, education, and advocacy. Each year, CAC serves more than four thousand people through programs such as a food pantry, clothing closet, community garden, emergency rent, utilities and medical assistance, Meals on Wheels, life skills classes, and homeless case management, including a pantry that is allergy- and Celiac-friendly—the only one of its kind in Missouri. CAC focuses on addressing hunger and housing instability for residents of the Kansas City area, supporting both immediate needs and pathways to financial stability. The organization was recently recognized as Harvesters' Agency of the Year.
