Community Roots Housing is a Seattle-based nonprofit real estate organization focused on creating and maintaining affordable housing across the city. Its roots trace back to Capitol Hill in the 1970s, and it has since grown to own and operate roughly 50 apartment buildings that house more than 2,000 residents. The organization aims to provide safe, affordable homes for a diverse mix of residents, including teachers, artists, seniors on fixed incomes, and young families. In addition to housing, it develops on-site amenities intended to meet residents' needs and support the surrounding community. In 2025, Community Roots Housing appointed Colleen Echohawk as chief executive officer. That year also saw a partnership with Cal Anderson Park Alliance to manage park space, reflecting the organization's ongoing engagement with the broader community.
