A tax-exempt organization that represents the common interests of U.S. and Canadian industrial organizations with investments, facilities, products, or services in the Great Lakes region, CGLI works to: -- foster a Great Lakes regional business climate that is built on a foundation of sustainable development and is supported by public policies that promote sustainable ecosystems, -- attract and maintain a robust industrial base, -- enhance social systems and opportunities for the community, and -- provide for long-term economic stability. To ensure that industry is a substantive partner in the development of public policy in the Great Lakes region, CGLI encourages active industry participation in developing and implementing sustainable development policies and practices in the Great Lakes region. Through strategic initiatives, work groups, and special projects, CGLI works on behalf of its members to provide an industry perspective in a wide variety of Great Lakes initiatives that advance sustainable development in the region. CGLI participates in roundtable discussions, stakeholder forums, and meetings with government agencies and environmental groups. CGLI reviews and (when possible) comments on policies, programs, and legislation that impacts industry in the region. CGLI works with its members to develop policy statements on critical issues and develops strategies for industry to respond to and influence important regional initiatives. CGLI also convenes member work groups and initiatives to focus on specific aspects of Great Lakes sustainable development policy. Current work groups focus on Public Policy, Chemicals Management, Water Use and Quality, and Climate, Adaptation, and Resilience. Additionally, CGLI leads outcome-based projects and studies.
