Custer Public Power District is a rural electric utility district based in Broken Bow, Nebraska. It spans more than 8,000 square miles and operates over 4,600 miles of distribution lines to serve parts of Custer, Thomas, Blaine, Logan, McPherson, Loup, and Hooker counties, as well as portions of Sherman, Dawson, Cherry, Lincoln, Brown, and Garfield counties. The district is organized into six service areas, with two areas managed from the main headquarters in Broken Bow and four supported by local service centers in Sargent, Callaway, Stapleton, and Thedford to place staff closer to customers. It aims to safely deliver electricity to its customer/owners, maintain a sound financial position, and exceed expectations in service and reliability. A recent development includes receiving the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for 2021 for safe operating practices.
