The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private, nonprofit foundation that supports the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions worldwide. Each year it makes more than 1,900 grants to non-governmental groups abroad pursuing democratic goals in more than 90 countries. Beyond funding, NED serves as a hub of activity, resources, and intellectual exchange for activists, practitioners, and scholars of democracy. The organization operates within the international affairs field and is based in Washington, DC, with a mid-sized staff. In 2024, NED partnered with Activista The Gambia to advance a new project, illustrating collaborative work with local civil society.
