Growing Domestic Demand The expansion of Egypt's economy has led to increased consumption of refined petroleum products, especially diesel and LPG. This growth indicates a sustained need for upgrading refining infrastructure and sourcing additional lighter petroleum products, presenting opportunities for supply chain and equipment vendors.

Supply Chain Partnerships ERC's recent collaborations with major cement companies like Arabian Cement and Suez Cement for petcoke and petroleum coke supply create avenues for related fuel and by-product sales, as well as potential for technology or logistics solutions supporting these partnerships.

Investment in Upgrading Facilities ERC’s initiative to upgrade its refinery to produce more light petroleum products reflects a market shift towards higher-value fuels, creating opportunities for companies offering refining technology, process automation, and scalable upgrades to enhance operational efficiency.

Technology Adoption With a modern tech stack including cloud services, web APIs, and automation tools, ERC demonstrates openness to digital transformation, indicating potential sales opportunities in advanced monitoring, data analytics, and industrial IoT solutions for refining processes.

Mid-Size Revenue Potential While ERC's revenue is in the $50M to $100M range, their strategic focus on reducing imports and local refining upgrades positions them for future growth, offering a pipeline of business prospects for suppliers of equipment, chemicals, and technical consulting in the oil and gas sector.

With the expansion and development of the Egyptian economy, the domestic demand for refined petroleum products, especially diesel, has increased. In addition, as more natural gas is utilized to meet Egypt’s expanding requirements for electricity, the demand for fuel oil decreases. The technology in most of Egypt’s refineries produces large amounts of fuel oil, but the growing demand is for lighter products such as diesel. The increased demand for lighter petroleum products is one of the most important challenges Egypt’s oil and gas industry faces.

To address Egypt’s increasing need, the Egyptian Refining Company (ERC) was incorporated in July, 2007 as a Law 8 Company to upgrade the existing CORC Refinery in Mostorod to provide Egypt with additional lighter petroleum products such as diesel and LPG which will be delivered to the heart of the consumption market—Cairo. ERC’s products will reduce Egypt’s dependency on petroleum imports.
