Elevated Chicago ETOD operates within the public policy space to advance equitable transit-oriented development as a means to promote racial equity, climate resiliency, health, and cultural vitality in Chicago. The organization coordinates a collaborative network of nonprofit, public, and private partners to transform areas within a half-mile of transit stations into racially equitable centers that foster programming, community engagement, and improved built environments. Its work is guided by principles of adaptability, impact, inclusion, innovation, and transparency, and it emphasizes community-driven development to position transit corridors as civic assets across the region’s extensive rail and bus network. The group has expanded from an initial focus around seven eHubs to nearly two dozen Elevated Chicago Plus communities and has contributed to shaping city policy, including Chicago’s first ETOD Policy Plan, and to demonstration projects through targeted grants and programs such as Equitable Development Ambassadors and the J.E.D.I. cohort with the Metropolitan Planning Council.
