Erlanger Health System is a nonprofit hospital and health-care organization based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, employing between 1,001 and 5,000 people. It operates as an academic teaching center affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine – Chattanooga. Erlanger serves as a Level-One Trauma Center for adults and is the sole provider of tertiary care services for residents across a four-state region that includes southeast Tennessee, north Georgia, north Alabama, and western North Carolina. The system includes the Children's Hospital at Erlanger, the only academic medical center in the tri-state region devoted to pediatrics, and it holds the state's highest pediatrics designation as a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center, with pediatric subspecialists, a pediatrics ER, ICU, and a Level III NICU. Each year, more than one million people are treated by Erlanger, and the organization has a history dating back more than a century.
