Family Service Agency of San Francisco is a mid-sized nonprofit in the mental health care and social services landscape, delivering a broad array of programs across the city and surrounding region. Founded in 1889, it stands as the oldest nonsectarian charitable social-services provider in San Francisco. The organization operates 34 programs in 11 languages, at multiple sites, combining social science research with culturally sensitive practice. Several of its programs have been recognized as national models and have earned top ratings from the city’s Department of Public Health. Its client base is diverse, with a large share living below the poverty line and a substantial minority representation, and women comprise more than half of clients. The core mission centers on ensuring access to essential services and resources for individuals and families in crisis, helping them build on inherent strengths to achieve self-sufficiency. With support from partners, the agency aims to translate present challenges into sustainable, long-term solutions within the San Francisco area.
