First Car Rental is a subsidiary of the vehicle retail group Combined Motor Holding (CMH).

Established in 1999, First Car Rental now employs more than 500 people with over 2200 years of combined experience. The fleet ranges from no-frills models to top-of-the-range luxury cars from a wide range of vehicle manufacturers.

Since the rebrand from National Alamo to First Car Rental in April 2008, the First Car Rental brand has grown significantly, becoming the largest car rental company in South Africa that is not linked to an international brand. 

Currently, the noticeable ‘purple’ car rental brand operates out of 60 car rental branches nationwide, including outlets at major South African airports, business and tourist destinations.

With a fleet of over 9000 vehicles use countrywide First Car Rental has built a strong local and international reputation for service excellence.

First Car Rental leads the industry with innovative, tech-savvy solutions. Its state-of-the-art, web-based reservation system allows customers to book a vehicle in just 3 clicks and under 15 seconds.

The company also pioneered the world’s first mobile check-out facility, Show&Go, aimed at the corporate sector. This innovation, along with South Africa’s first Self-Service Car Hire launched in 2018, demonstrates First Car Rental’s ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
