Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a public, historically Black university within the Florida State University System that was founded in 1887. Its main campus spans 422 acres atop one of Tallahassee's seven hills, and the university operates several satellite campuses, including a College of Law campus in Orlando, program sites in Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa, and a Brooksville satellite dedicated to agricultural and natural resource research and training. FAMU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and has been designated as an R2 Doctoral University, reflecting its substantial research activity. The university offers more than 95 degree programs across 14 schools and colleges, supported by various centers and institutes. It serves a diverse body of students from across the United States and more than 70 countries and has graduated more than 75,000 alumni. In June 2026, the university's board approved plans to purchase a medical clinic building and an adjacent office building in Denver, Colorado, marking a notable recent expansion activity.
