Food Bank of the Rockies is a Denver-based nonprofit founded in 1978 that coordinates the collection and distribution of food through a network of hunger-relief programs across Northern Colorado and Wyoming. It began in a 900-square-foot classroom in northwest Denver, where food gathered from Safeway stores was distributed to a single agency; today the organization serves more than 600 hunger-relief programs and distributed nearly 49 million meals in the most recent year, more than 134,000 meals per day. The nonprofit holds BBB accreditation and a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator, with 96 cents of every dollar directed to hunger-relief programs. A notable recent development is the expansion of its facilities, including a 270,000-square-foot distribution center in Aurora to meet growing community needs.
