Global Aeronautica is a joint venture between Alenia North America and The Boeing Company formed to support Boeing's 787 Dreamliner program as a major subassembly hub within the aviation and aerospace component manufacturing industry. It integrates large airframe structures from partners in Japan and Italy and performs assembly, integration, and systems testing of more than half the 787's mid-fuselage section. Adjacent to a sizable integration facility in North Charleston, it also operates a surface-finishes operation that applies protective finishes before sections are shipped to Boeing for final assembly. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, the company supports Boeing's program by coordinating the movement of major fuselage components to Boeing's Everett final assembly facility via the Dreamlifter, a modified 747-400. Global Aeronautica delivered its first completed fuselage to Boeing in May 2007, marking an early milestone in its involvement with the 787 program.
