At the Global Talent Retention Initiative (GTRI), we help international students and globally trained professionals build real career traction in Michigan, and we help employers connect with the talent they need to compete. We do that through practical programming that’s built around how hiring actually works. Our Global Talent Accelerator (GTA) cohorts support participants with career readiness, job search strategy, and confidence navigating U.S. workplace norms. We expand access through webinars and on-demand learning, and we create direct points of connection with employers through events like Emerging Tech Connect, making it easier for companies to meet candidates and for candidates to get in the room. Just as important, we work alongside universities and community partners to keep everyone aligned, sharing resources, surfacing what’s changing, and strengthening a statewide ecosystem focused on retention. We deliver employer-informed programming that demystifies U.S. hiring practices, strengthens professional skills, expands networks, and supports long-term retention. Working alongside universities and community partners, we bridge the gap between exceptional global talent and local opportunity by aligning stakeholders, sharing best practices, and creating clear on-ramps to employment. Our mission is simple: retain global talent and increase economic mobility. We believe Michigan is stronger when global talent can stay, contribute, and lead.
