Great Yarmouth Borough Council is the local district authority for the borough of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England. It serves about 100,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Gorleston-on-Sea and surrounding villages, and operates within the government administration sector as a mid-sized local authority. The council’s current form has existed since 1974, though the community has been self-governing in the area since 1209. Six priorities guide its work: economic growth, housing, neighbourhoods and the environment, tourism, culture and heritage, the town centre, and transport and infrastructure. The council aims to foster growth and investment, including potential opportunities in offshore energy, and to improve public spaces and services for residents and visitors. In 2025, the council was recognised at the Retrofit Academy Awards for its leadership in a local authority-led retrofit programme.
