Humane Society Silicon Valley is an independent nonprofit animal shelter based in Milpitas, California, with a history dating to 1929. Its mission centers on saving lives, keeping families intact, and building a better future for pets and their people. The organization provides adoption services, affordable spay/neuter programs, vaccinations and microchip services, as well as pet care and education programs designed to support the human–animal bond, and it holds the distinction of being the first Animal Community Center in the nation to earn Gold LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. As a community-focused nonprofit in the animal welfare sector, HSSV serves local residents and their companion animals by addressing adoption needs and preventive care. A recent development is the organization’s plan to honor Dr. Cristie Kamiya, Chief of Shelter Medicine, at The Fur Ball, its signature annual gala, on May 2, 2026.
