ICAway (pronounced I-See-A-Way) is a human-centered advisory firm focused on advancing international student success through cross-cultural insight, advisor education, and workforce transition strategy. Founded by Kwan Segal, ICAway develops Human-Centered Cross-Cultural Advisory Systems that help universities, advisors, and student support professionals better understand the cultural, behavioral, and structural pressures international students face throughout their academic and career journeys. Our work bridges the gap between student intent, advisor interpretation, and employer expectations, equipping institutions with practical frameworks to support international students during high-stakes transitions such as networking, job search, and post-graduation work authorization periods. Our flagship initiative iCEP: The International Cross-Cultural Advisor Academy A system-level training model that aligns cross-campus advising to support international students’ transition from education to the workforce. iCEP provides a cross-campus framework that aligns how institutions interpret and support international student career pathways—across advising, career services, and academic environments. It addresses a core institutional gap: misalignment in how student needs are understood and acted on across campus. Our impact Participation expanded from 79 pilot participants to more than 100 in its next iteration, representing over 40 departments. Participants shared that common cultural frameworks help advisors interpret student behavior and coordinate support across departments. The University at Albany’s implementation of the iCEP Academy—our prototype partner institution—was recognized as a finalist for the 2026 NAFSA Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for its internationalization efforts.
