The Illinois Lottery is an agency of the State of Illinois operating in the entertainment providers sector, based at 101 West Jefferson Street in Springfield, Illinois, with a workforce of about 51 to 200 employees. Established in 1974, it aims to maximize revenue for the state to support K-12 public schools, capital projects, and specialty causes, and it incorporates responsible gaming into its mission. Since 1985 it has contributed to the Common School Fund for funding K-12 schools and also supports the Capital Projects Fund. The lottery offers a mix of products including instant tickets, draw-based games, and terminal games such as Fast Play, Pick 3 with Fireball, Pick 4 with Fireball, Lucky Day Lotto, Lotto, as well as tickets for Mega Millions and Powerball; tickets are sold at over 7,100 retail locations across the state, online at illinoislottery.com, and via a mobile app. In addition, specialty instant tickets support nine causes, including veterans services, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis research, Special Olympics, HIV/AIDS assistance, police memorials, homelessness awareness, Alzheimer's research, and STEAM education; more than $60 million has been raised for these causes since 2006.
