GTL Resources operates Illinois River Energy, a bio-refinery in Rochelle, Illinois, focused on sustainable solutions to address food, feed, and fuel challenges. The dry grind corn facility processes about 44 million bushels of corn annually into 125 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol, 85 million pounds of inedible corn oil for biodiesel and animal feed markets, and 340,000 tons of distillers grains with solubles for animal feed. Production began in December 2006, and an August 2007 expansion increased capacity from 50 million gallons per year to about 120 million gallons per year. The plant sits on an 81-acre site in southeast Rochelle, Illinois, and was annexed by the city with Industry 2 zoning. The operation contributes to the local economy through corn value, tax base, and job creation. Illinois River Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of GTL Resources, placing it within the broader oil and gas industry.
