Founded in 2002, Impulse Monitoring, Inc. (IMI) was among the first companies to provide onsite and Web-based monitoring of the neurological systems of patients undergoing spinal and brain-related surgeries. Known as intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, or IONM, it is a technique that changed the standards of care for these patients by reducing the risk of permanent neurological damage.  Purchased in 2011, Impulse is a wholly owned subsidiary of NuVasive, Inc.  In 2016 Nuvasive purchased Biotronic NeuroNetwork.  Impulse and Biotronic are being combined to form Nuvasive Clinical Services, forming the nations largest IONM company capable of delivering unparalleled patient care across the industries largest service area.
