The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is a Paris-based organization founded in 1951 to advance knowledge about space and to promote the application of space assets for humanity. It operates as a global space advocacy body, fostering dialogue among scientists, academics and the space industry and supporting international cooperation in all space-related activities. The federation counts over 513 members spanning space agencies, industry, professional societies, universities, museums and research organizations in 77 countries, and relies on a network of more than 30 technical committees and 17 administrative committees to carry out its work. In November 2025, Gabriella Arrigo, then Director of International Affairs at the Italian Space Agency, was appointed president for a three-year term. Based in Paris, the federation sits within the defense and space sector and operates as a mid-sized organization coordinating a broad committee framework to advance knowledge and foster global cooperation.
