The essential business of the IFC is to provide a web-based marketplace of Iowa-grown food for willing buyers and sellers. At no time does the cooperative take title to any of the products. We have no inventory. The products that go through our distribution system are owned by our producer members, who then sell these products directly to our consumer members.

Acting as an agent of producer members, the Iowa Food Cooperative provides a web-based system for producers to post the foods and goods they have for sale, receives orders from consumer members, facilitates the delivery of these products to the cooperative’s distribution sites, collects money from the consumer members who have purchased these products, and forwards payments to the producers.

The Iowa Food Coop only sells products that are made in Iowa. We do this via an order and delivery system based on this website and a network of members. We currently have a once-a-month ordering and delivery cycle, which is described in more detail below. Our initial distribution site will be retail space at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines. Plans are to add additional distribution sites as the cooperative grows.
