The Kalamazoo Humane Society, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is a veterinary services nonprofit established in 1897 and has served the community for more than a century. It operates as a non-sheltering facility that works with the Kalamazoo County Animal Services & Enforcement Department to address the needs of stray and homeless animals and to provide pet adoption counseling. The organization highlights its roles in preventing animal cruelty, facilitating pet population control, and offering humane education. Its core programs include a Pet Food Bank that feeds about 500 animals daily in the Greater Kalamazoo area, a Safe Shelter initiative with the YWCA to shelter pet victims of domestic assault while their owners seek safety, an Operation Fix-It high-volume, low-cost spay and neuter clinic, and Dog Houses that provide shelter and straw for outdoor pets. In May 2023, the society launched a program aimed at helping low-income pet owners keep their pets healthy.
